One of the most popular things in Kalamazoo County is hockey and baseball. The Kalamazoo Kings is the city’s Frontier League baseball team and the community loves to support them. They play at Homer Stryker Field for home games. The Kalamazoo Wings is the city’s International Hockey League team, and can be found for home games at Wings Stadium. For those who love football, the West Michigan Mayhem offers some enjoyment, while the Western Michigan University NCAA Broncos are also favorites in the Kalamazoo community.

Of course, Kalamazoo is also home to an incredible range of parks. The Parks and Recreation Department maintains a total of 36 different parks throughout the city. These range from Academy Green and Angling Park to Crane Park, Davis Park, Dutton Park, Emerald Drive Park, Farrell Park, Hays Park and La Crone Park. The Parks and Recreation Department also offers numerous activities throughout the year hosted primarily within the city’s parks. One recent development is the 2010 completion of the Kalamazoo Dog Park, which will offer visitors and residents a place to bring Fido and let him run free.

For example, the Kalamazoo River offers numerous options for boating, fishing, swimming and animal watching, while the watershed area outside the city (actually a marsh) is one of the city’s preferred areas for bird watching, as well as hiking and biking. The marsh offers a vast network of trails for visitors to explore, as well as other amenities, all set within one of the most beautiful natural settings in Michigan.

Finding other options in the Kalamazoo community is not difficult either. For those who enjoy shopping, the revitalized downtown area offers an immense wealth of stores, boutiques, cafes and eateries. Even those who haven’t been bitten by the shopping bug will find historical sites to explore, unique stores to venture within and much more to tempt them into an excursion.
